Mission Trails Regional Park – A protected park with many hiking trails that stretch across and wind through several areas including east San Diego, La Mesa, and Santee. An interactive nature center is in the Mission Gorge area. Located on the east side of San Diego.

Point Loma Tide Pools – A shoreline area exposed during low tides that can be explored on foot - it contains fascinating sea creatures and plants that remain in crevices, caves, and on rocks. Located 15 minutes northwest of downtown San Diego on the western side of Point Loma peninsula.

Water Conservation Gardens – Five acres of displays that showcase water conservation through a series of beautiful themed gardens. Self guided tours and structured programs, some with a special focus on children. Located 30 minutes east of San Diego at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon.

Santee Lakes – Picnicking, fishing, and camping are few things to do. Located 30 minutes east of San Diego in Santee.
