Weather Summary and Links

San Diego is considered a temperate climate. Four distinct seasons exist in San Diego weather, however autumn and winter weather is generally mild. Due to this mild climate, outdoor sports such as surfing, water skiing, sailing, golf, horseback riding, hiking, bicycling, and others are enjoyed year round.

During Winter, snow usually only occurs in the mountains such as Laguna, Cuyamaca, Big Bear, and others. Skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and tubing are popular sports. In the same day you can play in the mountain snow and the Pacific ocean – they can be within 2 hours driving distance of each other.

Throughout the year “Santa Ana” winds from the eastern desserts blow into San Diego, via high pressure systems. This creates clear and warm, sometimes hot conditions.

The wet weather season is from October to April, when rainfall may occur from a few hours to a few days at a time. Periods of rain and cloudy weather are alternated by frequent periods of clear, warm weather.

The dry weather season is from May to September, when rainfall is very rare. June can be somewhat cloudy. July through September tend to be the warmest months.

San Diego sunsets are awe inspiring throughout the year, however they are most stunning during the Spring and Autumn seasons when cloud formations create magnificent dramas of color and shapes. There are many locations to see spectacular sunsets – a few popular favorites include Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach, Mt. Soledad, Mt. Helix, Point Loma, and La Jolla.
